Happy Jimin Day!

I have been a BTS fan for over a year now. Though it is a relatively short time in the life of an ARMY, they have consumed me. Slowly at first so I was able to keep it under wraps. My obsession has grown into something that can no longer be ignored.

In case you were not aware, BTS recently announced 4 concert dates for just after Thanksgiving at California’s SoFi stadium. There was a feeding frenzy over the presale tickets and by the time the blood dissipated from the waters, there were no tickets left when they were to go on sale to the public. Needless to say, this caused a lot of disappointment. I was talking to my family about the recent ticket drama. In particular how some fans have become depressed and despondent because of missing out on ticket opportunities.

“The message of BTS is Love Yourself. This is not the way to spread that message. Imagine how hurt they would be if they realized they had been the cause of sadness in your life.” I said.

My daughter started laughing.

“What?,” I asked a little indignantly.

“You sound like you are quoting from a religious text. ‘In the book of Jin, you will find the passage, “Love Myself”. She laughed.

I looked at her with my serious face and said, “It’s true though...I don’t understand how someone who loves them can risk hurting them. I mean they probably won’t know all the individual disappointments ARMY has but I am sure it would affect them just as it affects us when they are hurt or disappointed.”

Later that evening Sierra and I were both working on our computers when I started spontaneously breaking into the BTS chant. “Kim Namjoon, Kim SeokJin, Min..”

She burst out laughing. “Now you are doing a religious chant!”

I could see her point.

I have always shied from confrontation. I prefer to keep my views close to my vest unless it’s necessary to show my hand. I started sharing my BTS love with others who shared my feelings. I was building this website at the same time I was falling deeper into love with the guys. I purposely hid most of my BTS stanning. But now they have become so much a part of me that I have to incorporate them into my writing work. Though I am still working on my musical names book, I have started a project dedicated to BTS. I plan to continue as an emerging author, just more authentically.

I realize this probably sounds ridiculous to many people. Maybe they hold the view that the BTS fan is a “screaming 15-year-old girl”. Maybe they think a woman my age should be using my energy on something “worthwhile”. I’m sorry you feel that way. Life is too short to not enjoy things that make you happy.

October 13 is Jimin Day. His 26th (international age) birthday. Each of the seven members brings their own talent and gifts to the group making the magic, but Jimin is my siren. His enchantingly sweet voice is as pure as angel feathers. It was his voice I first heard that led me to learn more. Since then I have realized that while he looks and sings like an angel, he definitely has an impish vibe. For his birthday I compiled a Spotify list of songs featuring Jimin either as a soloist or contributing member.
